The Sutherland

The Sutherland library chair by Noble.

Shown here with turned oak legs, brass castors, and finished in a heavy gauge off-white cotton.

Both the frame making and upholstery are carried out within a 20 mile radius of our base in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. We use traditional methods and materials, which are carefully and sympathetically balanced with modern techniques and equipment. This allows us to keep the build of each sofa as true to the original as possible.

Features such as the smooth, hand shaped frame are characteristics we’ve been keen to carry forward from some of the most respected and well known sofa and chair makers of the 19th and 20th centuries.

The Frame

Each frame is made to order by hand in Wiltshire. We use sustainable beech as standard with oak legs.

Great time and focus was spent sourcing the correct frame maker for The Sutherland, ensuring each chair will last a lifetime.

We are extremely proud of our frames and feel it’s important to explain to you what lies beneath the outer layers.

The Upholstery

The Sutherland is upholstered in Tetbury using a careful blend of traditional methods and materials, as well as modern techniques and equipment where appropriate. We follow a build up process which is in-keeping with the original design, however all parameters can be adjusted to ensure maximum comfort and suitability to the customer.
